Speaker biographies
Katie Buckingham
Katie is the Founder and Director of Altruist. Drawing from her personal and professional experiences, she inspires others to take practical actions to support mental health and wellbeing in the workplace and beyond.
Experience
Katie has over 10 years of experience educating businesses, schools, and individuals on mental health. She has won over 20 awards, including the One Young World Z Zurich Foundation Scholarship, the Cambridge Social Innovation Prize, and Woman of the Year.
In 2013, Katie founded Altruist Enterprises, a leading provider of tailored mental well-being training and consultancy services. Over the past decade, Altruist has partnered with over 500 organisations and impacted more than 10,000 individuals, helping them establish effective wellbeing programmes.
Katie's TEDx Talk, "I'm fine, let's stop masking our mental health issues," has resonated with many, offering reassurance to those experiencing mental ill health that they are not alone and that it is okay to seek help.

Katie enjoys spending time with friends and family and playing football for her local team. She relaxes by walking her dog, Rupert, and listening to her favourite chilled house music playlist.
Danny Bowman
Danny is a PhD Researcher at the University of Liverpool and Head of Research and Communications at the Conservative Mental Health Group (CMHG). Danny’s work revolves around advising charities, businesses and central government on mental health policy, building on his personal experience with mental illness and his ten years’ worth of expertise in the field.
Experience
Danny has worked in the mental health field for over ten years, advising businesses, charities, government departments and No.10 special advisors on mental health policy. Before becoming Head of Research and Communications at CMHG, Danny was Director of Mental Health for the Parliament Street think tank, producing high quality research and publications and delivering speeches across the country. His work has received much recognition, winning the UK Prime Minister's Touch of Light Award in 2019 and the Rethink Mental Illness Janey Antoniou Award in 2023.
Danny’s passion for mental health was born from his own experience with mental health problems during his childhood. After recovering, Danny started his own campaign on mental health which subsequently went viral, receiving attention from prominent media outlets such as Good Morning Britain, Time Magazine, ABC 20/20, and the Sydney Morning Post. Danny has gone on to deliver lectures, speeches and presentations in schools, universities, major businesses, government departments, and No.10. Danny is currently completing a PhD at the University of Liverpool examining the politics of mental health policy. His high-level expertise in mental health research, policy, communications and delivery would be useful for any organisation looking to understand mental health.

Outside of work
Danny enjoys playing and watching sports in his spare time and spending time with friends and family. He is a keen long-distance runner, completing half marathons, marathons and ultra marathons to raise money for charities close to his heart.
