Our understanding of how best to recognise and tackle mental health conditions is improving all the time. It’s therefore essential that MHFAiders keep their skills up to date so that they can support your organisation in protecting employee mental health. Our refresher course aims to build confidence and help participants master their role as mental health champions.

MHFAiders are required to complete a refresher course every two years. Our face-to-face Mental Health First Aider refresher training is an ideal way for your MHFAiders to renew skills, update their knowledge of mental health best practice and apply new MHFA techniques. Please note, our course is only run for those who have completed the Mental Health First Aid Two Day course.

The face-to-face sessions allow participants to connect with their peers and share their thoughts and experiences with other Mental Health First Aiders. Guided group participation is often one of the most invaluable parts of the refresher sessions, giving everyone a chance to have conversations about mental health and gain feedback from colleagues.

Discussing the role with colleagues can be a powerful way of sharing learning and improving skills. It allows MHFAiders to practice their listening skills, share advice and examples, discuss mistakes or difficult topics, and will also help to generate ideas within the group.

MHFA Refresher training should form part of your ongoing employee wellbeing strategy, ensuring that best practice is reviewed at regular intervals and that staff are formally updated and engaged with important mental health issues as well as techniques for creating a happy and healthy workplace. The training will help to create a workplace culture that’s proactive at addressing mental health issues.

The four-hour MHFA Refresher training course will enable you to:

  • Keep your awareness of mental health supports current
  • Update your knowledge of mental health and what influences it
  • Practice applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan
  • Practice sessions so everyone has the chance to have mental health conversations and gain feedback from peers

Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) Refresher Course Content:

Learning is facilitated by an expert Altruist Enterprises trainer and sessions involve group discussions, delegate engagement via break out rooms and Q & A opportunities.

The refresher session covers the following topics:

  • The role of a Mental Health First Aider
  • Mental health and factors which affect wellbeing
  • Stigma and discrimination
  • Non-judgemental listening skills
  • Mental Health First Aid action plan
  • Common mental health conditions
  • Practising Mental Health First Aid skills
  • Self-care, wellbeing and recovery

Everyone who completes the Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) Refresher Course will receive:

  • An MHFA manual to refer to whenever they need it
  • A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support their own mental health
  • A certificate of attendance

Course Location:

We typically deliver this refresher course at client premises. We are based in Birmingham but are experienced in providing face-to-face training throughout the UK, depending on your organisation’s requirements. We also offer this MHFA refresher course online.

MHFA refresher training course pricing:

Prices for the Mental Health First Aider Refresher Course start from £137.50 + VAT per person (8 - 16 delegates). We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that our trainer can keep people safe and supported while they learn.

Public online courses are priced at £165 + VAT per delegate.
